An archaeologist stumbles upon the subterranean world of the Pompeian zombi, a reptilian creature produced by an infusion of liquid rubber into the moulds left by men whose bodies were vaporized after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Now reanimated as the thoughtless and punished servant of the feminine membership of the organisation, Heel!, he arguably represents the more flexible future of a new species of man, his smooth and featureless appearance seeming well suited to the liquid and rubbery otherworld described by the protagonist as he ventures further into the labyrinth of his confused, then lost mind.
